What Is Hair Loss?
Hair grows in many parts of skin except in eyes, on nails, on the palm of hands and soles of our feet, are being thrown but many hairs are so fine they’re invisible. Hair is made up of Protein called Keratin that is produced in hair follicles in the outer layer of skin. As follicles provide new care being thrown out from the surface of the skin at the rate of 6-inches per year.The hair we see is a string of the dead keratin cells.
The average adult has about 100,000 to 150,000 hairs and loss up to 100 of them per day.
At one time, about 80% of the hair on a person’s head is growing. Each follicle has its own life cycle that can be affected by age, disease, and many other factors. The life cycle of the follicle is divided into three phases.That is the hair growth cycle.
- Anagen — active hair growth that lasts between two to six years.During this hair grows 1 cm every 28 days.
- Catagen — transitional hair growth that lasts two to three weeks. This phase occurs at the end of anagen phase.
- Telogen — resting phase that lasts about two to three weeks.
At the end of the telogen phase, the hair is damaged and a new hair replaces it and the growing cycle starts again.
As people age grow, their rate of growth slows. So, that the old age people get more hair loss problem but in nowadays it is very common in old age, younger as well as children.
There are many types of hair loss, also called Alopecia.
Involutional alopecia is a condition in which hairs become thin with age.More hair goes to telogen phase, and the other hairs become shorter and less in quantity.
Androgenic alopecia is a condition that can affect both man and women.A man with this condition called male pattern baldness and being affected by hair loss as early as their teens or early 20’s. Women with this condition called female pattern baldness and being affected by hair loss and thin hair at age 40s.
Alopecia areata starts suddenly and cause hair loss in children and adults. But in 80% of people with this condition get their hairs back within a few years.
Trichotillomania, seems most in children, is a psychological disorder in which a person pulls out one’s own hair.
Telogen effluvium is temporary hair thinning because of the change in the growth cycle of hair. A large number of hair entering in resting face at the same time which causes hair shedding and thinning.
Scarring alopecias result in permanent loss of hair In this, the regenerating ability of hair is an entry. Hot combs and hair too tightly pulled can also result in permanent loss of hairs.

5: Male pattern baldness:
