The actor John Heard, best known for his role as ‘dad’ in the Home Alone films, has died at the age of 71.
Heard was found dead on Friday in his hotel room in Palo Alto, California, according to celebrity news website TMZ at the age of 71.
His death was confirmed by the Santa Clara Medical Examiner’s office in California late on Saturday, local time.
TMZ reported that Heard, who lived in southern California, was found at a Palo Alto, California. He was recovering from back surgery at Stanford University Medical Center.
“The Person was determined to be deceased. While it is still under investigation; the death is not considered suspicious at this time.”
According to the site, police had been called to the hotel to reports of a medical emergency, but Heard was pronounced dead at the scene.
Heard played Peter McCallister, the father of Kavin, played by Macaulay Culkin, in Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, in the 1990s.
He earned an Emmy nomination for a guest role as a corrupt police detective as Vin Makazian in “The Sopranos“.
Heard also played Tom Hank’s rival in the movie Big.
He also play leading roles in films including Cutter’s Way, C.H.U.D and Gladiator, opposite Cuba Gooding, Jr.
Also among his list of films credits were Battlestar Galactica, Beaches–opposite Bette Middler, Gladiator and White Chicks.
Heard was married three times, most notably to “Superman” star Margot Kidder.
“This is going to be a huge hit,” he said of the film. “that is going to put to rest the ‘Home Alone‘ dad image.”
Marlon Wayans, who worked with Heard on the 2004 comedy White Chicks, wrote on Instagram “He was a great guy. Shared a lot of laughs. Sad to see such a good spirit and actor taken.”
John Heard Fellow actor and co-star of Cuttler’s Way, Jeff Brighes posted his condolences for the “wonderful actor” on Twitter.
